[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”13044″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]This was the largest single environment I have ever built. Commissioned by the Adelaide City Council while i did my “innovator in residence” in the library, where i taught the public the power of virtual reality and how it would affect their lives, and created safe and ethical standard for sharing this technology with the public.

I used the HTC Vive for this project as it has the best spacial position and allows a user to truly explore an environment freely. The system of locomotion was the teleport, which is most common on the Vive platform.

I started with the library blueprints, then did a full 3d scan of the library and worked out the chnages to he original blueprints. As the technology of 3d mapping was not good enough at the time, plus the computers would not be able to play such a large scan in VR at a high enough frame rate, I could not use the scan, but used ti to build a massive model to scale of the library, using textures from the scan to make the most realistic representation I could.

The player starts in a 1:1 scale of the exact room where they do the VR at the library, taking the user from that room into a fantastical version of the library full of local and international artworks, as well as 3d imagery and sculpture.

The result is a breathtaking adventure in virtual reality, that mimics reality in a similar format to the way augmented reality will in the future, and represents the Adelaide City Councils dedication to providing access to that future for all of the public, from every walk of life and every socio-economic group of South Australia.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
